Game Design Challenge: Home Sweet Home
[10.05.11]
- GameCareerGuide.com staff
GameCareerGuide.com's Game Design Challenge is an exercise in becoming a game developer, asking you to look at games in a new way -- from the perspective of a game creator, producer, marketer, businessperson, and so forth.
Every other Wednesday we'll present you with a challenge about developing video games. You'll have two weeks to brainstorm a brilliant solution (see below for how to submit your answers). After the two week submission period elapses, the best answers and the names of those who submitted them will be posted.
The Challenge
Design a game based on your hometown.
Assignment Details
When you think of your hometown, what do you remember most? Is it the weather? The culture? Do certain memories come to mind? Or perhaps you spent a lot of time moving, and your "hometown" means something entirely different to you.
No matter the case, the place or places in which we grow up can have a lasting impact on our lives. These places were our home as we grew and matured, and thus they became a significant part of who we are.
Now, when it comes to game design, how would you communicate the experience of living in your home town to another player?
In this latest Game Design challenge, we ask you to design a game that in some way captures the essence of your home town. Anything goes--just try to create an experience that in some way lets the player know something about the place in which you grew up.
