New York gaming journalism
Hi, I'm a 21 year old college student in new york looking to break into gaming journalism, I have already done some review work, and have a minor in journalism. However I am having some difficulty finding any gaming publications based out of new york or game companies for that matter. I was wondering if there are any new york based gaming careers, and how I could get my foot in the door. Any help or advice would be most appreciated, thanks.

For publications, if there are none in your immediate area either go freelance or (at least prepare to) move. |
A whole lot of publications will allow you to work remotely. Go to IGDA meetings to meet people. Eventually, try to pitch people work as a freelancer, but be very careful to target the work you're pitching.
(By the way, I am a writer/editor in games, always looking to publish new writers, and I am based in New York; so is one of my colleagues.) -jillduffy |
Wow, that is quite interesting and all the more intriguing. I am curious as to where you and your colleague work, and if you may be looking to publish what I have to offer. If not, I could certainly use some information as to where I could pitch some freelance work.

Check out craiglists writing section. I've stumbled upon a few New York based web sites that were looking for game journalists to review for their site.
