Major Problem
I am very interested in beginning a career in videogame journalism, but first I need to finish my degree. I am currently a sophomore history major and am wondering would it be wise to switch to a journalism or English major and take a few extra classes.
Here is the quote from the job description for a Gamespot job: Have completed or are completing a BA/BS university degree or equivalent 4 years' worth of higher education, preferably in English, Journalism, or other writing-related field. Formal writing training a plus. So, would history be considered a writing related field? |
I personally doubt it.
And whenever you read those "how to become a game journalist"-pieces, they almost always recommend getting a degree in journalism. Makes sense, too. ;) |
I know you kind've already answered this, but would a major in English be just as good? My local college does not offer a journalism major and I wouldn't have to take extra classes in order to major in English. I could also write on the newspaper there, I know this isn't the same as a journalism major but it might help..........

Q. Will taking an English Major help?
A. Yes. Any other gap you want/fill is going to have to be proven by your portfolio. |
I am wondering if anyone would comment on my most recent review of LostWinds from WiiWare. It can be found on my newly created blog here:
