I was just wondering what people had heard, or even worked with in the industry.
Currently I am working with Pro Tools and Logic Pro, trying to improve my skills with these programs. I have also heard of Sonar being used and a few other programs.
Personally I preffer Pro Tools, simply because as I tend to do sound design. My composing leaves much to be desired, as I have a tough time making a correlation between melodies in my head and Logic Pro.
This also leads into another question I have been mulling over.
How important are compositional skills in the industry?
I would say I am pretty good with sounds, but as stated before, not great with composing. I am of course trying to improve these skills. Though I still wonder if I could achieve a job working with mostly just sounds and effects.
There really is no "industry standard". Each platform has their own audio tools but protools is definitely the best out there (in my opinion).
You don't need to be a composer to be a sound design guy. Most of the composing is done via outsource anyways...in the old days, companies hired composers but not anymore. Sound jobs are out there but very few come up.

soundfx is right imho
If sound design and fx are what you do best, do that - don't be afraid to specialize - there's a need for those skills. I'm an "old days" (mid '90s) music composer who was never asked to do FX, although several smart audio directors would at least get music and FX people together to brainstorm and co-ordinate. Would be a good to know ProTools well, although Logic's pretty cool for an all round DAW in my experience.
