Programs

Working on a concept and artwork, just need a good idea on whats out there for me to use program wise.

So, are there 'starter' programs out there for someone like myself to use to better develop his skills?

To Tom's list I would add the relatively recent StencylWorks, which lets you create Flash games. Coding is done through a system of interlocking 'drag and drop' parts. I tend to use this as well as Game Maker 8 or Game Maker HTML5 while I am teaching myself ActionScript.
