Hi Folks,
This is my first post so I apologise in advance if I have missed any information/ posting rules. I'm here because I will be graduating this summer from university and seek (like most others on here!) to get a job in the games industry. What I love about the industry is the creative freedoms it provides as well as the satisfying feeling of releasing an exciting and quality product. For this reason, I believe a QA Testing position will allow me to utilize the problem solving and communication skills I have acquired throughout my degree course. With that said, I (think) I am ready to embark on my exiting journey into the games industry. Here is my current CV. I was wondering if I could get it critiqued so that I can start improving/adding to it. Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated ![]() Jack Last edited by j_walks : 04-19-2011 at 01:53 PM. |

"Being part of a development team, designing, communicating and developing ideas to improve and create compelling and immersive gaming experiences would be my dream job. My objective is to be at the cutting edge of games development."
Doesn't tell me what you actually want to do. What is your dream job? Too much fluff. "September 2011; Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (University of Sheffield):" What modules did you study? Bullet point it. "a 3D tower defence game using the Unreal Development" Where is it? What did you do on it? Why can't I see it? "I secured a 5-week work placement at TBS Mobility;" What did you actually do? Bullet point it. "Relevant Software Microsoft Word – Intermediate Microsoft Excel – Intermediate Microsoft PowerPoint – Intermediate" Don't care about this, remove it. "Adobe Photoshop – Intermediate 3D Graphics Software 3D Studio Max – Intermediate Zbrush – Intermediate Crazybump – Intermediate XNormal - Intermediate Programming Knowledge Java - Intermediate" Where is the evidence of skill? "This was demonstrated in 2007 when I decided to co-found a Vietnam-themed Half-life 2 modification called Broken-Arrow." Where is it? What did you do on it? Why can't I see it? I would also remove the photo. It is only a necessity in some European countries IIRC.

Thanks for the speedy reply yaustar!
![]() The reason why I want to do QA and not programming is mainly because my programming skills suck. I prefer more to focus on the 'look, feel and gameplay' aspects of games rather than getting myself stuck in a mess of code (I know, i probably should of gone to game design school! But I never got any advice back then). You make some good points now I am looking at my C.V. objectively. What skills/areas of my C.V. do you think I should concentrate on in order to get it ready for QA? I have to admit, I have never seen a QA C.V. or resume so I am slightly clueless in that area. Thanks again. |
