Degree

Hi, I am currently studying computer science at a univetsity. I mainly sought after this degree so I will have easier time working in the states (I'm Israeli). Right now I'm doing some homework in math, and I can't take it anymore. All I want to do is to create video games, is there any way I can get hired to work in the states without a degree in computer science from a university in any position?

Yes. Don't apply for programmer jobs. Go for some other specialty in games instead of programming.

Well, I'm not much for an artist or a sound engineer. I enjoy writing but it is very hard to make a living out of it, and especially getting hired as a writer in the gaming industry. I went for programming becuase it was the most open spot, but the degree has too much mathmatics in it the pressure is killing me.

My deck is empty.

Infi mostly, but I believe I can get through that. In the upcoming semesters (3-6) the math will dwindle to nothing, so this is my conciliation. By the way, I sent you that email, and it is not nice to say stuff like "whine". Either way, I'm glad there are people like you that help others trying to get into the gaming industry.

Now, about my self. I like to program. I see myself as a programmer as well as a writer. I chose to study somputer science becuase it is profitable, regardless of gaming. I just thought that particular industry might introduce a certain adge to make work more interesting and engaing though it is still work.

There is a way to lower the level of the math by combining the degree with something else from another faculty, especially something from humanities, but I believe this will only increase the workload and the learning hours. Even though I see myself as a writer what they mostly though is to criticize published work instead of making their own, smells like bull.

1. I never heard of "infi," but it sounds like you can see a light at the end of the math tunnel, and your math complaint appears to no longer be the main issue.

2. I don't care if it's "nice" or not. I was holding up a mirror so you could see how you looked to others. Poet Robert Burns: "O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us."

Sounds like you just need to grit your teeth and bear through it. You either need to do the math modules or other modules to get round it to get the CS degree and a CS degree is probably the 'best' way to work as a programmer (especially abroad).

Infi is short for infinitesimal calculus. I guess back in the old days they hired anybody.

About your comment, number 2, you understand that the mirror one is putting aginst the other is not a 100% correct reflection becuase it is influenced by the mirror-bearer thoughts and agendas. And frankly, you can quote any poet or statesmen or D-list celebrity, but they too are subjective.

I understand, it is maybe whining but after the military service it is hard to go back to school. I did it, got accepted and now passed the first half of my first semester.
