Brilliant job Jill!
As someone who has been on both sides (interviewer and interviewee) I can say this advice is top notch.
I have had people approach me with no clue what they wanted to ask I generally try to ask them about themselves to try to help, but if someone else wants to talk to me I am going to ignore the person with no clue what they want to ask.

Also I have actually got the talking to an industry luminary to work one time. When I was still a student, I approached a very famous game designer (and my personal hero) with some simple things I wanted to ask but mostly to introduce myself. It must of worked because we have kept in email contact ever since.

All in all great work and great advice Jill. Everyone take this advice to heart.

Great article! Has a load of useful advice that anyone wanting to break into the games industry would find extremely useful.

Too bad that I didn't have it when I approached a games designer for advice of how to get a job as a junior designer and comments on one of my ideas, but you live, you learn I guess.

Anyway it didn't turn out so bad as he was a nice guy and gave me a bunch of advice and even stays in contact to comment on any ideas I have. Guess I'm just really lucky

Yes, I figured you would give that answer...

Maybe you could publish the interview you had, though?
This is something that also came to mind when reading the article: it seems rather selfish and ineffecient for a single person to benefit from an interview. If said interview was posted online, it could help a lot more people at once.

That is true, sadly it was over a year ago and I have forgot most of it.
