Default hi new here, need help with a question

Hi, since I was kid I have always liked games so I decided I wanted to be a game programmer, but also I like to create stories too, not draw (I dont have much skill on that area) but I can imagine the stories, the scenaries, and I have ideas for games that I want to recreate, my question is that if a game programmer can also propose the idea for a game, the story, etc, or do they need a title or something like that?

It sounds like you want to be a game designer. The designer is the guy who makes the levels, writes the story, sets up the game systems, and the rest. Programmers build the software according to the designers' specifications.

That said, it's good for programmers to know some design, and it's certainly useful for designers to know how to program.

Can they? Yes. Is it their main role? No.

There is a section in here that you will find useful.

I am a Game programmer who also helps with the game design at my company. I basically spend 80% of my time coding 20% designing.

Of course this depends on the size of the company. If the company is big enough, they hire a designer. If they are small, designers' duties are covered by other figures, like programmers.
In the end, if you are a programmer and you spend as much time in designing than in coding, in my opinion there's something wrong, but this is not always true.

Yea we are a decent sized company but with only one dedicated Designer so I just help out on specific titles.
