Hi,
Well I was looking at a few schools on the list and one caught my eye. It was MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). I live rather close (which isn't a big issue but is a plus) and have been thinking of applying. The only problem I see (i briefly looked so far) is I don't see anything about specific courses related to Computer Science. I was wandering if it was the right place for me to go (well to think about)? I'm aiming to be a game programmer. Say if I don't "break in" to the gaming development world soon after graduating, I want to be able to have a programming job to support me while I look. Any reply about the courses or if it's a good place to go (for a programming college) would be well appreciated. I'm aware it's a well appraised college but don't know how they are seen through the "game developers view". |

MIT has a Computer Science and Electrical Engineering program under their school of Engineering, and you will be going the 6-3 route for computer science.
Your major requirements: http://web.mit.edu/catalogue/degre.engin.ch6.shtml Course listing: http://student.mit.edu/catalog/m6a.html The purpose of the degree is primarily to see if you can keep a 4 year commitment. To be a game programmer, the companies want you to have advanced programming skills and don't care where you get them. MIT is a very tough school, so if you manage to get in and graduate you will not have a problem from the degree side of things. I will warn you though, they only accept around 12% of their applicants--a number that is rapidly dropping. I don't want to discourage you, but make sure you apply to other schools that you like that can still help you on the right path. |
