Does the PS3 HDD have your downloaded games on it?

I'm just wondering because I might have to get a new PS3, but I want to take my HDD out of my old one and put it into the new one. I don't really want to DL all my games over, plus I have games that friends gave me. Also, do PS3 slims use the same HDD type as all other PS3s?

AFAIK, yes. Not that I've tried though, as I'm concerned about the warrenty. The only difference is that the release button is more difficult to locate.
