game desiging after studying animation?

I was wondering if we could pursue game designing after after studying animation. I am from a country where game designing is a relatively new field. I intend to pursue a masters in Game design. Sadly, there aren't too many institutes that offer a course in game design at a certificate or diploma level, the animation schools however are exceptionally good

I believe there is no programming part taught in animation, I believe game designing teaches you a bit of programming required during level design and stuff. Won't it be a bit of a struggle learning it at a later stage?

There are lots of different types of game designers, and "game designer" can mean completely different things depending on which studio you're asking. It's certainly helpful for a game designer to have basic programming knowledge, and it's probably even required at some studios, but it's not like you can't possibly work as a game designer without knowing how to program.

I would recommend learning it on your own time though! Find a language that looks interesting, and work through some tutorials. It's actually lots of fun!

It's an art course, not a game design one.

Hey dude I can totally understand your position as there are no schools in Mumbai or India for that matter.I myself am looking for good game design institutes abroad (US/UK) both

If you're looking for a postgraduate course that, strictly, actually teaches design, then I've been told Brunel University in London is very good. I don't know about the course personally, however I know UK games designer Steve Jackson (Games Workshop, Lionhead) is involved.

Hey wee bit of confusion here , you meant design as in art or game design

I recently also read up about a university in scotland that is industry recognized.

The course is called "Digital Game Theory & Design". There is no art involved [1][2].
