One thing I've noticed is that many independent developers don't always reply to inquiries, especially if it looks like you may charge a fee. It's through looking into doing music for games I found this site.
One thing I will say is that I don't mind doing something for little or no money, so long as I don't feel to be taken advantage of. For people like myself with an interest and background in music, it's something that could be a step towards something bigger. Possibly helping the developer get noticed, possibly the music, possibly (And ideally) both. Getting into the likes of a Sony owned house is unlikely as they have a wealth of artists they can use (Note the early Psycnosis games on the Playstation one), so independents and small software houses would be the way to get started. Even so, easier said than done on occasion. |

The big companies mostly license music from other companies and/or outsource to independent sound designers. SFX are a different story as most companies own massive SFX libraries. Our company Gamecues.com is a music licensing site strictly for the gaming industry. We have signed on a few big artists as well as many indie artists. At the moment we are not taking submission though because we have soooooo much music sent to us we can't sort it all out in time.
My advise to the poster is to contact as many music licensing companies as possible about sending them you samples of your work and make contacts. Many companies aren't accepting submissions all the time but it can't hurt to have your info in their database. Hope this helped. ![]() |

I tried selling my songs to a local Indy developer once. I ended up working as the Lead Audio Designer and Director of Voice Talent for 8 months. It's all about letting the people who need people know what you can do.
I know this is about 2 years too late, but maybe someone can benefit... |

>Poll options:
>What companies buy game music from indy composers? >Do any game companies ever buy songs? >Who? >How? What kind of poll is that? What are you (we) trying to learn from the poll? I never saw a poll in which the only options you could choose were all questions. The answers: 1. All of them. 2. Yes. 3. Producers and audio directors. 4. You gotta market your stuff.

You should send songs to game companies as test. It will work.

I don't know the quality of your compositions or which program you're using to developed them.
I've succeeded with selling few of my songs by sending e-mail to game companies that have never heared of me before. I developed my compositions in SONAR but also have used a piano and electric guitar that I have in my house ![]() Last edited by JanaBest : 08-11-2011 at 02:44 AM. Reason: grammar :) |

I guess it must be a question about sending out some demo and then hope they will hear your talent.
