I want to start learning about scripting. How and where it is used? But I don't know where to begin, maybe some of you can point me in the right directions. FYI, I know how to program games, and currently working on a 2D side scrolling game. On a side note can I use scripting in 2D games???

Scripting is fundamentally programming so what do you need to know? How to integrate a scripting language into a game/application/program? What engines/libraries that use scripting languages? Why scripting should or shouldn't be used? etc.

Yes that is exactly what I need to know.. What languages are most ideal for beginners to learn scripting, which game engines support scripting, and how can I integrate scripting in my game.

"What languages are most ideal for beginners to learn scripting"
Lua, Python, Ruby, Javascript are the first ones that come to mind. "which game engines support scripting" LOVE supports Lua Unity supports Java script and Boo/Python Unreal supports Unreal Script SFML supports Python and Ruby GameMaker supports GML Panda3D supports Python Again, that's from the top of my head. "how can I integrate scripting in my game." Google. There is no one answer. It varies on the language you are looking to use and what you are trying to integrate it to. Lua is decent starting point as there a fair number of libraries to help binding it to a C++ program.
