I recently graduated university and am trying to create a game design folio for my resume as well as to improve my skills. I'm interested in enviroment modelling, level design and also mission and game design.
However I'm not really sure how to start. I've created a website, I just need to fill it with content. Should I just start with a few random examples of modelling? Should I start a big theoretical project and work mostly on that? Or maybe 3 or so medium ideas with scattered pieces of work? I also need a few tips on overcoming my low self-confidence when it comes to my work. I find myself afriad to start work, because I feel like I'll commit hours to something that's a bad idea and will just look terrible. It's a serious problem I struggled with throughout university and am still unable to overcome. Thankyou, I really apprciate any help. |

Jeno,
Your levels and missions would be good things to put on your portfolio site. If you also put models on there, that'll confuse hirers (what is this guy? an artist or a level designer?). Game designs are problematic, since a hirer might be subject to "unsolicited design" prohibitions. Read FAQ 12 on my site (see sig). Put only your best work on your site. Don't put anything on there that needs to be apologized for, or explained. Nobody can help you overcome your personal motivational problem. Only YOU can fix that.
