Hello , I am Lakshminarayanan from India (Chennai). (Sorry for my English if its too bad).I have just completed my Computer Science Engineering. I am basically sitting at home as I haven't got a job yet. For past 8 years I ve been playing so much of games that its in my blood already. I want to know what do i do make a career in this field. After Indepth research I thought ill get into some institute , learn the basics and get a fresher job in this field and gain experience over time and then jump to a better company after 3 years for satisfactory pay/good Pay OR do Masters in Game development after 3 years of exp..(once i am experienced)...
Now I saw this institute , I want to know how good this course is, its 1 Year and approx 4000$ http://www.icat.ac.in/courses-p-g-game-development.asp and then this http://www.seamedu.com/site/diploma_game_programming and this : http://aiga.in/academics.html All 3 assure placement assistance if we perform well. The last 2 places have excellent Lab facilities and staffs. I don't know much about icat and i am still researching. Now what would you guys suggest. Get myself occupied with this course and learn as much as possible and break into industry and do MS later? Or get some software company day job, Learn all these at night and try Masters in USA by next june directly? |

Your only problem is that you have to make a decision. Making decisions is what adults have to do all the time. This is your first adult decision. NOBODY ELSE can make your decision for you. You need to break down your decision into pros and cons, then add them up for and against each option, and determine which option is least optimal (then discard that option), and so on. You have done a good job of gathering information so far -- you need to continue doing that. Don't try to shortcut it with the confusing conflicting opinions of strangers on the internet. I have written a couple of articles on how to make this decision. http://sloperama.com/advice/lesson25.htm http://sloperama.com/advice/m70.htm Good luck!

Hey thanks a lot tsloper about making decision and those links , I am going through it. Meanwhile I want to know which course is the best among the 3 (syllabus). They are all approximately 3500-4000$ (the first one is my city. the other 2 are in neighbouring states). In case I plan to take up studying for this next year and break into industry as a fresher and move on gaining skills and experience then which one of the above would u suggest. !
My views : Icat - Mediocre Labs and faculties but great syllabus/ Same city where I live in/ 4k $ / 1 year course Seamdu - Neighbouring state/ Edexcel certified/ Great staffs and lab/ A pretty good syllabus/ 4.5k $ + Living expense/1 year course Aiga - Syllabus based on present trend of the market in my country and not C++(so i can get job after completion)/7 months course / 3000$+ Living expense/Extremely good Lab facilities and staffs from reputed game companies in the industry. All the above guarantee placement assistance when there is performance. And another doubt is.. Should directly jump into C++ trying to make a mark or get into companies making mobile games/ web based games (as structured in the course of AIGA) etc. get into the industry ,g ain experience and then go for the hardcore game programming using C++ ? Like you said everyone has their own point of view so I thought ill post here as you ppl would have seen a million newbies like me .Thanks |

"Best" is subjective. Only YOU can determine which one is "best" for YOU. YOU have to decide this. It's YOUR life. Read those articles, and start making your decision grid.
