Actually the wise man I talked to told me to apply to be a volenteer, you just have to get there and they supply the rest. Although that being said, your free time is very limited. But, you just have to worry about a plane ticket. I may indeed just start volenteering for these things if this is the case. My charisma alone is more than enough to get me noticed... Haw!

I have done the Conference Associates program with GDC (volunteered) and it is amazing. Not only do they pay for almost everything (discounted rooms and you have to pay for airfare) but it is a much easier way to meet people (since people will ask YOU questions). If you can try and do it but a warning it is kind of an elite group to get into (1000-2000 people apply and only 300 get picked).

Well to you Gshonk, do you think some guy from Canada with manager and supervisor experience would have a decent shot? Just wondering if I should start planning now... or keep focusing onthe goal of an awesome portfolio to just land a job?

Yea I think you would have a great shot just make sure your essay makes you stand out. Also I have done the program for GDC not for Austin GDC they are two different things so not sure how to get into Austin.

Maybe I should try out. I would have to wait though while my expenses, savings, liabilities, and budget are in order though. I'll probably try out once I'm settled in NY.
