A professional game designer should be able to... ?

Hi everyone,

Firstly I want to make clear of something. I am not a game designer wannabe, I already have 1+ year experience working in the professional scene of game design. However, as my country is not the U.S, Japan or South Korea, which have high standards and knowledge base for game development, sometimes I wonder what qualities separate those top designers from us who come from less developed countries. That's why I want to ask everyone who has worked with or witnessed game designers from developed cultures working, can you share with me and others the qualities of these people in common, or what makes you think they are good game designers ?

While I appreciate every effort to answer this question, I hope you can help me avoid an abstract answer, such as : "Superb creativity" or "Excellent analytical skills". Although they showed just how great these designers are, they wouldn't going to help me measure the amount of differences between their "Superb" and "Excellent" with my "Mediocre". If possible, something more specific such as: "Able to write game logic in pseudo-code" or "Able to draw to illustrate ideas" would help me much more.

Some people might think it's silly for a game designer to ask about "What makes a game designer". However, my point here is to see the line separating a rookie game designer like me and veterans besides work experience, so that I can make proper plans to improve myself.
