Hi All,

I have been working for a reputed software company for about 30 months in Hyderabad(India), and that is my total experience as well. I was recruited during campus placements. Since beginning I had been put into Manual Testing, which I am doing really really good. But I always used play games in free time. I mean all kinds of games like PC, mobile or online. It was post 2 years into my job I realized that I have more towards gaming than just playing, and always wanted to move towards making games. I though rather that just going in on searching jobs, I should first improve on at least one department or language or skill. I started to learn Flash Pro for a month using online help and eBooks but did not get it properly, same happened with XNA game studio. I eventually settled on to Corona which uses Lua language to make games. I have pretty good expertise on it as I have been using it for 4 months now. I had posted my resume on the famous job portals, but did not get anything by now, I mean no call for interview etc.
I have few questions over here:
1. How good is the gaming industry going on, is it different for console games and mobile games and what kind of progress is it
2. If it is really good then how is it in Hyderabad, can we really make living out of it, I mean you can always make a living as so many of us are doing, but how good is it for a fresher and especially for people like me who have a bit of irrelevant experience
3. Do I need to do anything else apart from the things I mentioned above

Hi Satheesh,

1. How good? Well, it's still a very big industry. It's in the process of sorting out how best to conduct business in the changing marketplace. But there are as many opportunities in the industry now as ever.
1. Is it different? Yes.
1. What kind of progress is it? I don't understand the question.
2. I can't speak for Hyderabad. Check gamedevmap and gameindustrymap.
2. Yes, you can really make a living in games. I have.
2. How good for novices? Very tough. You just have to do it.
2. As for irrelevant experience, read my article 41: http://sloperama.com/advice/lesson41.htm
3. Yes, probably. http://sloperama.com/advice/entry65.htm
