Default Architect Interested in Level Design

Hi everyone. I’m interested in the possibility of getting into the games industry and would really appreciate some advice.

I’m currently a 4th year architecture student, and also love 3D rendering (been using Cinema 4D for a few years now). It seems to me that there are some interesting parallels between architecture and level design and I think it would be great to be able to put my architectural and rendering skills to good use in this way. So my questions are:

1. Do game design firms ever hire architects?

2. How likely is it that my architectural training and skills are actually relevant for game design?

3. I have received an automatic acceptance into my school’s accelerated masters program. Would getting a masters help in relation to level design or is it not worth it?

To get a better sense of my what I can currently do, here’s my architecture portfolio/resume:

And here’s my DA page where I have some 3d modeling and renderings:

I would love hearing any thoughts you all have about this career path, including next steps I could take to pursue any opportunities. Thanks very much.

1. Do they? There's no data on that question. Would they hire one? Sure, if he had an outstanding game portfolio; why not?

2. Fairly likely. http://sloperama.com/advice/m69.htm

3. No impact whatsoever. http://www.igda.org/games-game-june-2011

4. Worth is subjective. Only you can decide if it's worth it for you. Go for it if you want to and are able to. http://sloperama.com/advice/route66.htm
