Hello ! First time on here and it looks quite nice.
so i am now completing my last year of a 3 year program in 3d animation oriented for video games and i am in the doubt. Ultimately what i really want to is become is a concept artist. However my concept/drawing skills are, in my opinion, a few years of hard work away from me. And because of school which is mostly 3d oriented i don't get to practice that much. So my question is, when i do finish school, should i try to find a job in the 3d department ? Or should i take 2-3 years on my own and practice everyday my concept art skills ? I guess I could find a job in 3d and then find my way up to 2d, but then i feel if im working i wont have enough time to practice. Here is my portfolio, its missing a lot of recent 3d stuff but i think you can get the picture of my skills at the moment. http://gablain.daportfolio.com/ Thanks alot for the help !! |

Are you independently wealthy? If not, you need a job. Or am I missing something?

Lovely drawings. I see you focus more towards the fantasy genre. My first thought was because it's such a popular genre arent most artists working in that area? im just taking a guess here.
and you gotta write a bio about yourself with all that education behind you, what makes your skills different to the others etc |

You can find a job right after you graduate. Then while looking for a job, you can also practice at the same time. So that no time will put to waste.

To what are you enthusing, usertester? Are you a spammer? Are you going to sprout a spam link signature?

I am a little confused, you went to school for 3d animation, but you do not have any animations, textures, or rigged models in your portfolio.
Just as a suggestion: If your degree is in 3D modeling/animation, and you have a sizable amount to work to put into a portfolio, then create a portfolio and find a job in the industry. Staying out of the industry because it's not the exact job you want is not a good idea. You can work and make connections while still working on your concept drawing. When your drawing/concept abilities are good enough that you feel you can get a job in concept art, then start applying for those jobs. |
