I'd like to have a personal "portfolio" website.
First of all, do you think I should use my full name as URL? My name is Ciro Continisio, so the URL would be www.cirocontinisio.com. Do you think it's too long? I fear that people will make mistakes when typing it... Maybe www.continisio.com?Don't you think that using one's name as URL is a little bit, like.. boasting? Especially for someone who doesn't have real works or a career to show off. Personally, I am against using nicknames... On the other side I could invent a fictional name for something like a company that I want to setup (say.. GCGones, for example). My site would be something like www.GCGones.com, but it would be a little ridiculous because the company is only me, no? As for the contents, I think of something simple with a clear main menu, so people could navigate without problems. If you have some links to share for example, I'd be grateful. Suggestions? |

I dont think there is anything wrong with using one's name.
Its simple and easy to remember, well if they know your name in the first place that is. mine is just http://www.danielzeligman.com |

If continisio.com is still available, I'd prefer that one over cirocontinisio.com.
You Italians and your difficult names... I worked in a team once with a guy called Brachiolo, but I never could remember it because he was often talking about 'Grappiolos', or something. At one point, 'Grappiolo' even appeared in the report and in the code documentation where his name was supposed to be. :P (Yes, that was irrelevant.)

I use my name but have two urls that link to the same site. gshonk.com and grantshonkwiler.com. It is only a few more dollars to have two domain names. So I would say get both!

![]() I know the whole thing seems stupid, but I saw a lot of people mispelling my nick (ccontinisio) on forums, and they were Italians!! I can only imagine what a non-italian could do... (see Protector One... by the way I think the word is "Grappolo" = "Bunch" [of Grape])Protector One, I was pondering on your advice. In the end I think I'm going for cirocontinisio.com, since... well we know a lot of complicate japanese names, why can't people learn to spell my name? I'm hopeful. |

Ah, yes 'bunch of grapes'... I remember hearing that from him once, whilst discussing the Brachi/Grappi-issue. He also said something about 'arm rests in trains'...? ![]()

Good for you. Don't forget to put a garish 'Under Construction' animated gif on your domain for now.
And you should also make a 'gameover' subdomain. ("Game Over! Continisio?" )
