I am sure most of you know about it and more are less working towards it. I, just got to know about it !!
![]() Yes, its the microsoft's imagine cup . Theme: ""Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems facing us today." (more..)This year the Imagine Cup uses these ambitious challenges as a guiding light to inspire change all over the world. The Eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals My proposal: When I checked the site, it says 21 days to submit for stage 1. We have to basically submit a prototype for the first stage. I definitely want to try and send in an entry. I really dont have a team with me or know enough people to make one. Yet, I was thinking if there were some people here, who would be willing to give it a shot. I am just excited about it and I really wont mind dedicating more sleepless nights to it .So, I want to get an initial response from you guys here. Just to let you know, my forte is programming. I have been working in C# and XNA for sometime, so am familiar with it. I have been working on some games..2D only though! Anyways, PM me or post in here, if any of you are interested. And yea, if you have any questions, please shoot coz time is of essence here! We gotta get going asap!!!! Last edited by brainydexter : 02-06-2009 at 09:56 PM. |

Aaagh! I've been doing XNA projects for months and I only now learn of this?!
I'm not a big fan of the theme, though. I'm of the opinion that games are good at teaching abstract lessons, not dealing with specific real-world issues. You could always take the "model a system" approach for the spread of HIV/AIDS or the world hunger problem, but that seems to lack creativity and the fun factor that they're looking for.

I know what you're saying. But hey, we can make something that is, fun to play! Also, I was thinking of keeping the target audience as kids, so all those big simulations ideas goes to the trashcan!
Keeping the idea simple enough, yet conveying subliminal awareness! Heh, what I meant is, its like those animated movies by pixar and disney. They are fun to watch, yet they always convey a powerful message. What sayeth ? |

It's possible, but I don't know if I could handle the "emotioneering" side of things well enough to pull that off.
If I do something here, I'll probably do it solo, just due to the weird schedule and tentative nature of it all. That is, if I start to build something, I don't plan on finishing it unless it's looking good after a week. I'm thinking about doing a model-the-system game about adoption of environmental technologies in developed countries, though I'll probably use fictional technologies and fictional countries.

Personally, I would make a brief RPG dealing with one of the themes with the intention of heightening players' identification with the people whose life it depicted and thus causing them to give to charity.

I decided to go ahead with it. One week left, and I'm on schedule to be in beta by the end of the weekend. God willing, there's enough time in between then and the deadline to make the game fun!
Edit: Changed screenshot to a link since I was messing up the site layout... Screenshot
