I have this concept brewing for a game called 'The Non-Killing Game'. It is basically a First Person Shooter that plays automatically if the player doesn't interfere. That is, the character will shoot anyone and anything in sight. However, the player can choose to intervene, with can have various consequences.
Now the big question of course: has it been done before? I don't want to put any effort into it if it has already been done somewhere in some form.

So an on-rails, choose your own adventure (to a degree) FPS?

Well the description seems a bit vague so I personally couldn't say whether it has been done before.

Yes, I guess it would be similar to on-rails games, but it won't actually be an FPS. The player won't do any aiming. So although it will look like an FPS, it will play more like Dragon Lair or rhythm games.

Interesting idea, I like it. Are you saying you interact to keep them from killing people? So it is about a serial killer?
And no I don't know of this being done before.

'Yes', and 'perhaps'. I don't have a story or setting in mind yet, but a Patrick Bateman-like protagonist could be pretty cool, now that you mention it.

Yea this is a cool idea, I am very intrigued. Because this opens up a whole cool realm of gameplay, obviously level design would be the most crucial part of this game.

I'd love to see it on a console, but I must be realistic. :P
It might become a PC game in XNA (even then I doubt doing an Xbox360 version would be worth the effort), or it might not even leave the prototyping stage. At this point, the concept itself is really all it is.

The concept I am seeing would be best on PC or Wii because of the ability to use the cursor. If it was on say a 360 it would just be reaction commands. Well this is the concept I see.
