Just curious, what's the coolest thing you've created using sines or cosines? I know they can be used to emulate wave motion, or oscillating objects like a hovering spaceship or a light source swinging back and forth. What other uses can you think of?
I'm planning to write a blog post on the use of sines (based on my little experience) and would like to include some of your ideas. If you have a demo or screenshot of something cool I would love to see it! |

I made a 3D carousel for a game once like the ones on gotoandlearn.com w/ cos and sin. I thought that was cool, but it didn't make the final product

Meh, I'm not that into cosines. (Sines, on the other hand...!)
I think the 'coolest' thing I ever did with them was create a wavy flight path for a spaceship in a Flash animation forum sig. http://www.chazchat.com/index.php/to....html#msg17452 (It's below the ugly pants.)

Casted a floor for a raycaster with sine and it, as well as use it to calculate the "real" distance to the intersection of ray and wall line instead of getting the horrible fishbowl effect inducing "distorted" distance.
Not particularly "cool" but handy. http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/232/mehr.png Last edited by DTR : 08-06-2009 at 10:31 AM. |
