I do remember a few spambots that was mass PM-ing that I managed to ban. If that was the cause then I really wished the admins spoke to the moderators and upped the filters on registering as there have been far too many spammers as of late.

Hey guys,
Simon here (GCG publisher) - we've had quite a few more complaints directly to us about PM-based spam, so we're trying to prevent PM-ing for a little while to see if this dissuades the spambots. (We also had to do some editing of people's profiles recently for similar spam-related reasons.) Anyhow, we may change this back if there is overwhelming consensus that the advantage of member-related PM-ing outweighs the disadvantages of average GCG members getting spammed. Yaustar and any other admins who'd like to talk about this, ping me at scarless at think-services dot com and I'll loop in Christian (GCG editor) and we'll try to work out some other solution. We're doing a great job of keeping spambots off regular forum messaging thanks to you, it's just the less visible stuff (profile spam, PM spam) that's a bit rough. Thanks! Simon. That's a pretty heavy handed approach to solve the problem. Why not just prevent users posting links or sending PMs if they have less then 5 posts?
To be honest, I am far more pissed that the moderators were not consulted or even informed about this at all.
