studying game design or is something else more useful?

i am only interested for game designing since its the only job i think its fun doing it. is there anything more useful than game design school(since to be a designer you dont need to go to a game design school and u can learn many things through the expirience with games), any school[expect game design] that could help find a game design job easier?
is there something you can do till u finish school that can be added to your resume?
also are there any specific programs game designers use?
i live in greece and after finishing school i intent to go to uk to find a game design school or something better, is there any school that you would reccomend?
