What about Unity? It is a great 3d game development tool. You can download it free for non-commercial use.

Hey dude, just wanted to say love the enthusiasm!! (Cant spell that word >.<)

Game maker is a good place to start, grab the concept of what the target audience want, and how to grab what you can from them.

I would suggest if your looking into game design of some sort then definetly take on SOME kind of 3D design, try blender or K-3D ive been using K-3D for the last 2 days and i find that it is VERY simple to pick up... i made a mug a table a chair and a computer monitor in the space of an hour and a half (diddnt texturise them or add colours).

Anyway i hope this little piece of text inspires u to keep at this

Drawing tips?
Learn to use wacom.. It's efficient.. you can see some of my drawing here:

the first 2 images, is image of the characters I made using wacom.. It's much easier than drawing on paper and then scan it.

I'm currently studying game design and we use a tool for prototyping called DarkBasic. Pretty simple to get the hang of and you can make a complete EXE file from it. Also, we have been learning alot of Unreal/UDK as seems to be used in the industry alot.

RPG maker? it's been years ago.. the graphics isn't satisfying.. I dunno anything about game engine.. but I've seen one my friend use A7 game studio.. I don't know what it is, because I always code with c++ and design with photoshop+3Dmax to create my own game
