When willing to put the time and effort in, I am a pretty decent cook. I usually follow directions, but enjoy trying new things.
I don't like to bake though, I'm not great at it... So I steal what ever my roommate bakes and he gets what I cook. |

Okay I'm experimenting. Stuff like beef jerky and fruit leather is damn expensive, so I decided to make my own. It doesn't take that much effort, but it takes a loooot of time. The round steak cut in slices is currently marinading in the fridge with teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, and garlic salt (8 more hours to go), and the mango puree with honey is baking with the oven door open at 149degrees (also 8 hours before I should even bother checking it).
After the fruit is done, I'll switch it out for the jerky. I have to put it on a rack above a cookie sheet to catch drips. I will report back tomorrow with progress and if it was a big disaster or a delicious experiment. |

I workout everyday and grill myself some chicken or steak, I found that meat digests slower so you are not as hungry throughout the day.

Some notes: When making fruit leather, make sure the plastic wrap doesn't fold over the top of the fruit puree, or it overcooks into a pie-like yumminess instead of dry leatheriness. Although equally delicious, not for travel. It only happened on the edges though!
The jerky is perfect. Tough but moist on the inside. I'm going to make another batch throughout today. - Beth |

Hi!
The jerky sounds good, well done! I prefer baking myself, when I feel low or guilty I like to bake cakes. It calms me down and gives me something to eat to feel better! I like cooking warm, hearty food like rice pudding (topped with flapjacks) and leek and ham cheese bake. The problem I have with cooking complicated dishes is that I get very annoyed if it's wrong in any way I will throw it out instead of trying to salvage it, so I end up using more ingredients than I should! I do enjoy cooking though, when I get the chance. Chicken Fajitas are so easy to make and are really nice! |

I tackle cooking a little better than some of my family members but I am still not the cat's pyjamas!
