Hi
I am 17 and live in the UK. I am just about to start year 13, my second year of sixth form and my A-levels, also my last year. I am taking continuing with Photography, ICT and Computing A Levels. I could go to university or take a gap year next year, I don't know what to do. I so enjoy games, how they are made, played and everything about them. I make my own games and applications for the iPhone and iPad, sell them on iTunes, I put lots of times into games. However I do't know which way to turn now. I am so so at programming (of course only at a basic level currently), but pretty bad at maths and I can't draw to save my life (game art standard anyway). I mean I would love to be involved in the development of games in any way to be honest, just Im not sure which way specifically to go. Could you guys give some ideas or advice please? Just as a side question, as a designer, if thats the correct title (not artist or programmer) do they need strong abilities in art? Or are they focused on ideas and story etc? Maybe thats the way I should lean? I'd appreciate it, thanks. |

Read about the different types of jobs - http://www.sloperama.com/advice/lesson7.htm - and make a decision grid - http://www.sloperama.com/advice/m70.htm Don't worry if you change your mind later -- you can do that. You probably don't have to decide on a major during the first year, and even if you do, you can change it. 3. Read http://www.sloperama.com/advice/lesson14.htm and http://www.sloperama.com/advice/designprep.htm

I disagree with Tom about 1. If you want to take a gap year, have a good reason doing so. As long as you doing something meaningful, it's fine.
What games have you created in the App store already?

Hmm these have been really helpful guys, thanks. That sites is really helpful and detailed. Looks like programming might be the best turn for me, just need to persevere.
As for my apps in iTunes I recently removed them from sale as they are very poor (play and work fine, just badly presented) and so I am currently making a new title which will hopefully be complete in the next month or two. Haha so sorry I couldn't link you anything. |
