Default Math needed for modeling, animation, etc?

There's technical and non technical animation. Technical animation covers things like raytracing, fluid simulation, cloth simulation, basically anything animated using code and requires a lot of matrix math and some 3D calculus. For non technical animation, the only math you need is basic addition/subtraction/multiplication/division and the fundamentals of geometry (ie knowing the difference between a trapezoid and a square is useful).
