I've notice no replies yet to this question. I was wondering the exact same thing because I really feel like I've missed out, or didn't listen to, a lifetime opportunity. I am a little bit older and I clearly remember one of my college professor ranting and raving "If you want to make boat load of money then learn how to create video games"
This was long before gaming has reached the levels that they are now. So I'm wondering is it too late? |

To answer the original question, I’m sure non gamers are able to make games; they may even be able to great games. However, on the most part the reason people get into the game industry is because they enjoy games. Another point to consider is the game industry is a lot harder than most non industry people would think, so the passion for game does help a lot to take it especially during the fabled crunch time.

I had sons who picked up game-playing back in the old Mario Brothers days when video games were just getting started. I thought they looked like fun and always intended to try a few times myself. However, it didn't occur to me except when the boys were already playing and I still haven't tried. Now I don't have any game equipment but have been wondering about my grandchildren. Could someone please recommend a game system or some specific games that wouldn't be too violent (or too expensive) that I could be comfortable giving to my grandchildren? They are 8 and 10, also boys.
Thanks very much, Lynn |

I recommend the Nintendo 3DS or the Wii for that age.
All games have ratings on them. Look for the little black-and-white rating on each game package.
