  • Japanese Charts Enter Stasis After Golden Week

    [05.15.08]
  • The top two selling titles have remained the same for the fourth week in a row in Japan, with not a single new entry in the top thirty and very little movement in the rest of the chart. This has left Mario Kart Wii in first place with 107,000 units sold and Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G for the PSP in second with 82,000 units sold.

The charts cover the last day of the Golden Week series of public holidays in Japan, normally one of the most important periods in the retail period but this year suffering from a general lack of new game releases.

Although there was little chart movement of note, as expected, Wii Fit passed the 2 million units sold mark this week, with an additional 53,000 units sold, putting it in third place.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is poised to reach the same milestone next week, while Wii Sports will likely pass the 3 million units sold barrier at the same time.

Overall in the top thirty there are nineteen separate Nintendo DS titles, seven for the Wii, two for the PlayStation 2, one for the PlayStation 3 (Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles at number fifteen) and one for the PSP.
