  • PSN Cards Coming To 7-Eleven, Blockbuster

    [08.28.08]
  • Sony Computer Entertainment America announced that retailers Blockbuster, 7-Eleven, and Riteaid will offer PlayStation Network prepaid cards at locations throughout North America starting September.

The cards will be available in $20 and $50 denominations, and they can be used to purchase PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable premium content, such as games and videos, from Sony's U.S. PlayStation Store without using a credit card.

The PSN cards, similar to Xbox Live and Wii points cards available in most major retailers, are already currently stocked at Pamida, Meijer, and Speedway stores, and Sony intends to add more PSN retailers in the near future.

As for why the rollout has not occurred across more conventional core gaming stores, according to recent reports from game weblog Kotaku, specialty retailer GameStop is awaiting a point-of-sale upgrade enabling stores to activate the cards before it can begin selling the product. Allegedly, the upgrade will not be implemented until "some time in 2009."
