Reminder: European Innovative Games Showcase submissions close on Friday
- Developers of Europe, take note: the call for submissions to present games in the first-ever European Innovative Games Showcase at GDC Europe 2014 ends this Friday, June 6th.
Taking place during the Independent Games Summit at the Cologne, Germany show this August, the winning creators will be offered 5-minute microtalks at the final session of GDC Europe's IGS to showcase what's special about their current project.
Anyone who successfully submits and is chosen to participate will also be given full Speaker Passes to the event, which afford full access to every GDC Europe session and the massive gamescom trade/public event.
Of course, conference organizers are working hard alongside the industry's best and brightest to fill the event's session lineup with great talks, and now you can use the GDC Europe 2014 Session Scheduler to see the most up-to-date session listing and plan out your perfect conference.
If you can't attend in person, detailed video of the inaugural European Innovative Games Showcase will be showcased on Gamasutra and the GDC Vault for free after the event.
Game designer and MC Jonatan Van Hove will be coordinating the showcase and helping pick the winners alongside IGS' European advisors (Amnesia's Thomas Grip & Copenhagen Game Collective's Lau Korsgaard), IndieGames.com's John Polson, and further judges to be announced in the near future.
Overall, the showcase will be curated to include a wide variety of innovative or experimental games, including diverse and new ways to showcase gameplay, art style, play style or anything in between. Organizers are looking specifically for European-resident creators to showcase in this local show, and the submissions page will remain open through the end of the week.
Of course, the European Innovative Games Showcase -- which is open to all pass-holders at the show -- is just one of many sessions that have been announced for GDC Europe 2014, with more to come in the weeks ahead. You can check out the current session lineup via the conference's Session Scheduler, and early birds can still register by July 16 to save 200 euros on an All Access Pass.
Organized by UBM Tech Game Network, GDC Europe, now in its sixth year in Germany, will run Monday through Wednesday, August 11-13 at the Congress-Centrum Ost in Cologne, Germany, co-located with Europe's biggest video game trade and public show gamescom.
Gamasutra and GDC are sibling organizations under parent UBM Tech
