  • Abertay's Master of Science Degree Gets Skillset Accreditation

    [01.07.10]
  • The University of Abertay Dundee in Scotland announced that its master of science degree course in computer games technology has been formally accredited by Skillset, the skills council for the UK creative media industries.

Abertay University now holds three of the eight Skillset accreditations awarded to games-related study courses across the UK. Abertay is the only university to have multiple Skillset-accredited courses, and is the only school to be recognized as a Skillset Media Academy in Scotland.

The master of science course debuted in 1997, and was the world's first degree in computer games. Classes take place at Abertay's Institute of Arts, Media and Computer Games, established in 2009 with help from a £3 million grant from the Scottish Government.

Abertay received additional funding totaling £3.5 million last month from the UK Government and the European Union. The grants will go toward the creation of a business support framework for games industry start-ups and small enterprises.
