AIE offers vocational training in Computer Game Development (Animation and Programming) and 3D animation for Screen, supporting the Australian digital creative industries, which continue to grow faster than any other entertainment or content sector. All AIE’s Bachelor, Advanced Diploma and Certificate programmes are nationally accredited and recognised through the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Full time training at AIE commences in February each year, continuing until November each year. Intensive mid year intakes start in July and continue until November each year. Typically students starting in February study for two and a half days per week allowing time to work or undertake other study. Mid year intensive intakes usually run 5 days per week over one semester.

Students have a choice of three campuses, Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra. Online study also allows students to study and gain qualifications and skills from anywhere in the world.
Both Sydney and Canberra campuses are co-sited with established games companies and offer genuine industry training creating 3D or games product in teams.
Our game development courses give students the reality of the games production environment and culture. In many instances students gain valuable experience during their studies, working directly with industry partners.
AIE is very aware of emergent skill needs and new trends in Australian industry through its board membership of the Games Developers Association of Australia, its organisation of the annual Games Academic Summit, its regular contribution and advice to State and Federal Governments and its many informal contacts nationally and internationally.
AIE students have the chance to be part of a number of innovative programs including the Women in Games Group and scholarship schemes from Sony Foundation Australia.
A unique strategic partnership with Canberra Institute of Technology, enables students studying at AIE Canberra to access services inherent to a large public provider, whilst still being able to enjoy the personal and specialist service of a smaller organisation. AIE continues to develop partnerships with universities allowing AIE graduates to access higher education and RPL in various under-graduate programs. AIE currently works closely with Deakin University, the University of Canberra and Murdoch University to offer advanced standing in Bachelor degree programs at both universities. Negotiations are also well advanced with Swinburne University to offer similar pathways.

AIE students take part in a comprehensive series of industry presentations and networking events to promote strong understandings of industry roles and business areas. This builds on the industry simulated game project wherein students build a commercial quality game.
In a highly practical framework, students develop their programming and problem solving abilities, learning about key algorithms and real-time rendering techniques. All development at this stage is done using a real-world game engine.
Working within a pre-built framework, students will explore the key technologies required to give in-game characters the appearance of intelligence.
Students will work within the constraints of a console environment preparing them for the technologies most frequently used in the Australian Games Development environment and giving students key skills to carry into their career.
Using commercial level technologies, students will cover how to implement network play into games.
Throughout the course students will be exposed to a number of software engineering fundamentals necessary for their progression into the games industry. The practical focus throughout the course is on writing production quality code.
Developing time management skills and working to game design documents, providing students with valuable skills in developing and meeting team expectations and deadlines.
