Communication University of China (CUC) is one of the key universities
under the administration of the Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of
As the National Animation Education and Research Base, the Animation
School of CUC, established in 2001, is one of the earliest Chinese institutes
of animation, digital media art and game design education and research. The
school has 82 faculty members, among whom are 9 professors, 16 associate
professors and 58 visiting supervisors for Graduate Students. About 1000
full-time students are currently enrolled in the school.

Harmony: with the
idea of cross-discipline and cross-major, Animation School seeks for the
harmonious development of the school and the rational system of curriculum by
bringing in the essence of such disciplines as communication, fine arts, design
and art, radio and television art, film and television art, computer science
and technology and management.
School devotes itself to the integration of science, art and humanities, of the
east and the west and of the tradition and modernity, which wins it advantages
in the circle of animation and digital media art education.
has developed long-term cooperation in education projects with more than 50
international schools of higher learning, and hosted quite a lot of academic
speeches. For example, the Hochschule fuer Film und Fernsehen (HFF) in Germany,
Gobelins, l'école de l'image (Gobelins) in France, Norwegian Volda University
College, Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning
(Sheridan) in Canada, the Korea National University of Arts (KNUA), Bournemouth
University and University of the Arts London in Britain, Nanyang Polytechnic
(NYP) in Singapore, Cogswell Polytechnical College in United States, etc.
Launched in 2005,
Summer Academy is a cooperative project between HFF and Animation School, in
which the two schools in turn sends a 20-plus-member team of teachers and
students to the other one every summer to create digital media art works.

collaborated project has been extended to Sheridan, Gobelins, KNUA and NYP in

weeks of the spring semester, Animation School calls for the sophomores and juniors
to focus on creating works. The partners include KNUA, NYP and Hong Kong

Apple Computer/CUC Collaborated Lab and HP Education Center of Excellence have
been established at Animation School. The school will continue to work together
with Apple, HP, Autodesk and other international companies to build platforms
with high-end computer graphics technologies and facilities for education,
research and production in the fields of animation and digital film &
Progressive Learning Process
After having basic courses in the first two years, students majoring animation
will choose to be trained in three directions based on their professional
expertise and academic results in the fifth semester. All the students majoring
digital media art have courses together in the freshman year and will be
divided into two different directions based on what they interest in, what they
suit and how they perform academically.
The School puts emphasis on the use of the open recourses for education all
around the campus. We provide high-speed school network for the teachers and
students, encourage the students to participate in various academic activities.
Besides, we make every effort to create innovative learning environment by
housing the Creation Space for the teachers and the students to exchange ideas
and turning the corridors of the school into art galleries to exhibit the works
of the teachers and the students.

Animation School provides a highly creative learning environment and encourages
teachers and students to create their works. Over 100 works won the prizes in
domestic and international competitions including some world top animation
festivals such as Annecy International Animation Festival, SIGGRAPH, Stuttgart
International Festival of Animated Film and so on.

International Student Animation Festival is the first international student
animation festival in China which is approved by the State Administration of
Radio, Film and Television, supported by Beijing Municipal People's Government
and co-undertaken by Animation School of CUC and Beijing KAKU Cartoon Satellite
Adhering to the principles of authority, originality, academic stress and
internationalization, the festival aims to construct a globally renowned
platform to show the achievement of cartoon and animation in the world and
promote China’s original cartoon and animation films.
The festival appeals to numerous animation artists, industry leaders and
animation enthusiasts who gather on the CUC campus for the festival. Experts in
the field of animation education, who are from such top animation colleges as
Gobelins, Sheridan, HFF etc., are invited here to give master courses.
Asian Research Center for Animation and Comic Art
Set up in 2005, the Center strives to be an international academic institution
for exchanging different ideas and cultures, protecting and inheriting
traditions of the folk animation and comic art, and showing the traditional
Chinese folk animation and comic to the whole world.

The Office will work together with institutions of animation and comic art
education at home, building an authoritative and specialized system of textbook
on animation and comic art, and directing the reform and development of higher
education in related fields.
Education Committee of China Animation
China Animation Association is the only national professional organization in
animation. Education Committee is one of the four committees under the
Association, responsible for communicating and coordinating with institutions
in the field of animation education and research in China, as well as organizing
related academic activities.
