    Course Code – N5575

    Study Type – Full-time

    Academic Level – Level 2

    Award – BTEC

    Course Length – 1 year full-time

    Course Summary

Are you interested not only in playing video games, but in how they work, and how technologies such as iPhone, social networks, and motion-sensing controllers are changing the games industry? If so, then this course is an ideal way for you to develop your knowledge and practical skills. The course will help you to learn about games companies and jobs, and will give you a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related course.

A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A*-C.

    Course Details

You will learn how computer games are made by investigating computer game features such as graphics, sound and controls, and discussing them in detail. You will do practical assignments using 2D animation, 3D game level editing and digital graphics - disciplines that collaborate on full games.

    Entry Requirements

You will normally need to have at least one of the following:

4 GCSEs at grade A-D (preferably including Maths and English)

A BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject

A standard of literacy and numeracy at Level 1

    Related work experience

Other related Level 1 or Level 2 qualifications

    Career Progression

You may progress to a specialist BTEC National Diploma programme in Game Development, Media Production (Film & Television), Music Technology or Creative Media at Nescot if you gain Merit grades on this course. Alternatively you may seek employment as a tester in a games company or in retail.

    Other Information

A range of visits will be arranged and will cost in total for the year approximately £40.
