  • The Applied Arts Department offers a 1 year certificate in Media Studies (formally Art Fundamentals) as a foundation year for students going into an artistic field in addition to the 2 year programs of Animation and Graphics, Electronic Game - Design (Programming) and Electronic Game - 3D Graphics (Level Design or Technical Animation). Our instructors are industry professionals from studios such as Disney and focus the instruction within a mock studio enviroment.

Miramichi also offers an internship program availble to students who have graduated from a 2 year diploma program or equivalent. This is one of the highest paid internships in Canada and is currently with the Department of National Defense. It offers many benefits in addition to the chance to work for a year creating content for training and serious gaming applications. International students are eligible to apply as students work on base as civilains.

These programs, and the college's commitment to lifelong learning, help students turn their passion for the gaming or animation into a career in these fields. The Miramichi campus is unique in that it offers programs in both the programming and 3D/Animation sides of the Game industry giving the ability for collaborative project simulating a game studio environment. Depending on their course of study, students will develop skills in storyboarding, animation, layout, 3D model creation, character animation, level design, texture mapping and game prototyping in additional to learning soft skills to make them better professionals. At the end of the two years the students will have learned the importance of creating portfolios and demo reels that reflect their knowledge of the animation and/or game industry. Our student ratio is purposely low to give the students more one on one time with our instructors and better access to the technology resources.

In June the graduates participate in our very own Miramichi Animation and Gaming Festival 'Jalloo' (www.jalloo.net <http://www.jalloo.net/> ) and network with industry professionals. Student Portfolios can be viewed at http://www.animationnb.com/ where the graduating student receives a free website to host their online portfolios.

In this industry acclaimed Applied Arts department, students develop strong technical and creative skills. The simulated studio environment aids students in understanding the professional standards they can expect to find in the animation industry. Graduates from our animation and game programs are prepared for challenging careers in all aspects of animation or gaming and its applications. From entertainment to educational products, animation and gaming is a growing field seeking dedicated, well trained individuals. The Applied Arts programs at NBCC Miramichi can help you realize that dream.

Out of state tuition applies to international students only.
