Default What language should I learn?

I'm currently about to go into my last year of high school, and I've set my mind on becoming a game programmer. I'm currently split, though, when it comes to learning a language.
I've heard that C++ is the most widely used language with game programmers, so that's one reason. But some people have recommended starting out with something simpler, such as Java, C#, or a game-specific language like "Blitz Plus"
Any useful input is appreciated

I'm one of those people. You are going to learn multiple languages anyway. Don't try to start out with the hardest one. Learn programming fundamentals with an easier language first and work your way up.

Do you have any suggestions as to which one I should start with?

Most people recommend Python. Read this:

Learn about programming in general before choosing a language to master.

http://www.amazon.com/Head-First-Pro...9132055&sr=8-1

That book will teach you Python, which is not only a useful scripting language to know, but is easy to learn if you've never programmed before. Plus, the Head First series of books are great, I can't recommend them enough. Once you've gone through that book then you could probably start learning C++. But think about get a formal education if you want to seriously be a programmer as well.
