The Entertainment Arts and Engineering Program was developed in an attempt to create an interdisciplinary focus for Computer Science
and Film students that would allow them to tailor their degrees toward
studying and producing video games and computer animation. After
consulting with companies ranging from Disney to Electronic Arts, we
came to realize that one of the major difficulties facing the video game
industry was a lack of understanding and communication between artists
and engineers who worked on projects together. As a result the EAE program was created to give students either a full Computer Science or
Film degree, but at the same time give them the opportunity to work on teams that included both artists and
engineers. The results speak for themselves. The program is now the highest ranked program at a public university in the United States, and has become a model for cross-disciplinary education
and collaboration.
