Pennsylvania State University, School of Information Science and Technology is an interdisciplinary school. It offers courses engaging students in several fields, including Human Computer Interaction, software development, social policy, network and security, and recently game design. In the game design class students learn graphics and game engines and several concepts, including 3D math, vectory goemetry, etc. Furthremore, they use these concepts to create games. The course involves several game tuning sessions, where students' games are critiqued and tuned to enhance the overal user experience.
At the RAEL (Real-time Aesthetics and Experience Lab), a research group formed in the late 2003, we started to explore several areas in game research, including automated cinematography, automated lighting design (focusing on style, communicative and emotional functions of light), and the use of user modeling to enhance the overall user experience.
